Here are the top 10 requests for the desktop of Windows 10

The Windows desktop received quite a lot of improvements with the release of Windows 10 Technical Preview, and Microsoft is working to bring even more enhancements to this side of the operating system in future updates.

As you might already know if you're a Windows 10 tester, Microsoft launched several feedback platforms to get closer to users and find out more about their requests and suggestions for the new operating system, so it's easy to see how customers react to the upcoming product by simply looking at their messages.

At this point, the built-in Windows 10 Feedback app includes thousands of requests, some of which are supposed to convince Microsoft to implement more customization options for the features available in the Technical Preview build.

Obviously, there's no guarantee that all the features you see mentioned here or in the Feedback app will make their way to Windows 10, but as a general rule, the more votes, the bigger the chances to see requests implemented.

Customization for the win

Keep in mind that the feature requests you can find below are all published in the desktop category of the Feedback app and some have fewer votes than expected, which means that their chances to be introduced in a future Windows 10 update aren't really that big.

We've also removed the duplicates and rephrased some of them to better explain their point.

These are the top 10 requests for the Windows 10 desktop as of November 17, 2014:

1. The ability to add a label to each desktop would help distinguish between them 2. I would love to see a completely Modern UI/flat design for everything in the desktop 3. It would be nice to be able to have separate desktop backgrounds 4. Animated wallpapers/video as wallpapers 5. 4k screens are here, but all background pics are low-resolution 6. New themes with the option of live wallpapers 7. Features to add tiles to the desktop (similar to gadgets) 8. Bring back Windows Gadgets 9. Add Windows Glass theme 10. Make a keyboard shortcut to show/hide desktop icons

No improvements till 2015

Microsoft has recently released Windows 10 Technical Preview build 9879 and has revealed that no other improvements will be rolled out until early 2015, when another pack of updates is scheduled to go live.

Sources close to development plans have indicated that a preview version of Windows Phone 10 is also likely to see daylight in early 2015, so maybe this very first smartphone build could ship together with the next update for Windows 10 Technical Preview.
