Funcom has announced that both active and inactive Age of Conan players will have the opportunity to try out the first expansion of the game, Rise of the Godslayer. The offer includes ten days of free access to Rise of the Godslayer, as well as ten days spent in the original title for free for inactive players; it may be taken up only until the 15th of July.

This is part of Funcom's efforts to expand the user base of its massively multiplayer online role playing title. A buggy launch coupled with lack of end game content resulted in the severe decrease of the number of people that played Age of Conan. The developer has done all it could to alleviate this problem and Rise of the Godslayer has been released exactly with this purpose in mind. It does not include any level cap increase, only a huge batch of content, the whole new area, entitled Khitai, being full of quests and activities both for newcomers, but mostly for those who have high level characters.

Rise of the Godslayer was relatively well received, many reviewers and gamers alike praising Funcom for sticking with its MMO and finally providing what the community had been asking for since the launch of Age of Conan in May 2008. “We are delighted to see how well the expansion has been received both among our own players as well as the worldwide gaming press,” says Morten Larssen, vice president of sales and marketing at Funcom.

“After a full-scale release in retail and online the expansion has performed well in terms of both sales and traffic, and the activity on our servers has increased significantly in the last month. ‘Age of Conan’ has once again proven that it is truly one of the top MMOs on the market right now, and we remain dedicated to supporting it,” he continued to comment in the press release accompanying the announcement of the title.
