Ted Danson takes a stand against seismic airgun testing in the Atlantic Ocean

An online petition set up by actor and greenhead Ted Danson asks that President Obama do not approve of seismic airgun testing for oil and gas being carried out in the Atlantic Ocean.

More so given the fact that said testing activities are meant to pave the way for offshore exploration and drilling activities to be carried out in these waters.

What worries both Ted Danson and the conservationists who have thus far signed his petition is that thousands of whales and dolphins will be either injured or maybe even killed by the deafening blasts.

“According to your Department of the Interior, seismic airgun testing for oil and gas in the Atlantic will injure or kill 138,500 dolphins and whales, including endangered North Atlantic right whales,” the petition reads.

Furthermore, “Offshore drilling is dirty and dangerous, and seismic airguns are an insult to ocean economies and ecosystems. With respect, we call on your administration to reject seismic airgun testing in the Atlantic.”

Those wishing to sign the petition can do so here.
