Announced in early March, Telus Galaxy S Fascinate 4G by Samsung will be available for purchase starting May 12.

Touted as “Canada’s first 4G” the device can reach peak download speeds of 21 Mbps, in comparison with the 3G version that was limited to 7.2 Mbps.

We are thrilled to be working with Samsung to offer Canada's first 4G smartphone that combines ultra fast download speeds and advanced smartphone capabilities,” said David Fuller, Chief Marketing Officer at TELUS, at the time of the official announcement.

Although Samsung's Galaxy S Fascinate 4G is set to be delivered with Android 2.2 Froyo on board, it appears that Samsung will be upgrading the phone's software to the latest Gingerbread platform, later this year.

Equipped with a large and crisp 4-inch SuperAMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors support and 480 x 800 pixels resolution, Galaxy S Fascinate 4G features multi-touch input method, accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate, touch-sensitive controls, proximity sensor for auto turn-off and Swype text input.

In addition to the 5-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash, touch focus and face and smile detection, the smartphone packs a secondary front facing camera for easy video chat.

The phone is powered by a 1Ghz processor and offers an uncompromised web experience along with full support for Adobe Flash 10.1.

Furthermore, the device features integrated GPS receiver Wi-Fi connectivity with Wi-Fi hotspot capability, as well as Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB, 16GB memory card included).

The phone's 1650 mAh Li-Ion battery provide users with longer working times compared with the 3G version that included a slightly lower capacity battery (1500 mAh).

Telus has yet to officially confirm the precise release date of the Galaxy S Fascinate 4G, as well as the smartphone's price.
