Canadian carrier Telus has just revealed that one of its Android smartphones, the LG Shine Plus will receive the highly-anticipated Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade “in late September.”

Officially introduced last year in September, the LG Shine Plus is currently available for purchase via Telus for as low as $29.99 with a new three-year agreement.

Other price options offered for the smartphone include: $199.99 with a new two-year contract, $249.99 with a new one-year plan or $299.99 off-contract.

Although the phone might have become obsolete, the carrier is keeping the same price.

The reason behind Telus decision seems to be the high return rate of the phone due to software related issues.

Even though the LG Shine Plus looks more than decent, it seems to be very sluggish and has a very low battery life.

Given the fact that the phone is delivered with Android 2.1 (Eclair) on board, LG originally said that an Android 2.2 (Froyo) will be rolled-out sometime at the end of last year, but then postponed it until July.

However, as Google continues to release new iterations of Android, it appears that LG was forced to announced an unexpected Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) update for the LG Shine Plus, which is expected to be available this September.

LG Canada customer service informed users of the upcoming upgrade with the following statement: “According to the information I have available at this time the Shine Plus will be receiving an update to 2.3 in late September of this year.”

It is hard to say if LG and Telus will manage to deliver the promised software upgrade as scheduled, but it is likely that they will deploy Gingerbread for the Shine Plus by the end of the year.

Stay tuned for more updates on the subject as we receive more information regarding the upcoming Gingerbread for LG Shine Plus.
