The development team at Telltale Games says that its upcoming episodic game series based on Game of Thrones, the television series from HBO, will not offer a prequel story and that all its narrative threads will run concurrently with the events seen on screen.

Dan Connors, the chief executive officer of the studio, tells Digital Trends that, "It’s not a prequel. I think the show provides a timeline, but the world is huge. There’s so much going on and it’s so rich. Every decision that King Joffrey makes impacts so many people. Any microcosm in that world people are affected by the decisions that are made plays out across the whole thing."

The executive has not offered any details on whether Telltale Games has plans to create an entire set of characters to use in the game or whether it will re-interpret familiar faces from the TV show.

The company has made it clear that most of its inspiration will be drawn from the HBO-made series rather than directly from the books written by R.R. Martin, mostly because the audience for the video content is bigger.

Connors adds, "The show does a great job of interpreting George R.R. Martin’s work, and his work provides a huge dictionary of knowledge about what the franchise is. It’s really a dream to sit down and say, 'What’s our space in this world? Where are we in this world?' And the world offers you so much to explore."

The Game of Thrones episodic game was announced late in 2013 and since then, Telltale Games has been unwilling to offer any concrete details on the kind of experience that fans of the fantasy universe will be able to get access to.

Launch is set to take place before the end of the year and the studio will try to target as many platforms as possible in order to reach a wide customer base.

At the moment, Telltale Games is focused on the development of the second season of The Walking Dead series, which focuses more on the character of Clementine and her struggle for survival.

At the same time, it is also working on the first season of The Wolf Among Us, which is based on the Fables comic series.

Telltale Games is also working with Gearbox on the Tales from the Borderlands experience, which will use new characters in order to explore more aspects of the first-person shooter franchise.
