On Thursday, the Australian wireless carrier officially announced plans to make the Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone available for purchase on its network.

The handset will land on shelves with support for 4G connectivity, but it won’t be available until early next year, it seems.

“The original Samsung Galaxy Note seemed like a bit of an odd device to some when it first launched. More than a phone, almost a tablet… everyone began using the word ‘phablet’ to describe it,” the carrier notes.

Building on the success of its predecessor, Galaxy Note II is expected to prove highly popular among users in Australia as well, the company says.

Unfortunately, no specific info on the exact availability of the smartphone has been provided as of yet, or details on the price tag it will feature at Telstra.

The handset is now up on pre-order in the country at Optus.
