Australian wireless carrier Telstra has made available for pre-order on its website the HTC Velocity 4G, its first 4G LTE-capable smartphone.

The company is set to release the new mobile phone on its airwaves as soon as this week on the Telstra’s $79 Freedom Connect Plan.

Users interested in acquiring the mobile phone will receive $800 worth of calls and unlimited texts, along with 2GB of data to be used on the company’s networks (3G and 4G).

The new mobile phone has a lot to offer to its users, beside the LTE connectivity capabilities. It packs easy multi-tasking capabilities courtesy of a fast 1.5 GHz dual core application processor and 1GB of RAM.

Moreover, the HTC Velocity 4G features a large 4.5-inch qHD (540 x 960 pixels) capacitive touch screen display, great for viewing videos and playing games while on the go.

The specifications list of the new device also includes an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with 28mm lens for panoramic shots, continuous shooting and HD video recording capabilities. There is also a 1.3-megapixel camera on the front, for video calling.

HTC Velocity 4G also arrives on shelves with Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi hotspot, and 3G connectivity, as well as with 4G LTE, USB port and the like. The handset is also HD Voice capable, Telstra notes.

The smartphone is powered by Google’s Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread operating system, with the HTC Sense 3.5 user interface on top of it.

“The Telstra 4G network is about speed - awesome data speed. With typical download speeds ranging from 2Mbps to 40Mbps, you can download 2x faster than the next fastest Australian mobile network,” the wireless carrier notes.

“So you can make every second count - whether you're surfing the web at lightning speed or streaming your favorite videos with less buffering. It's all there for immediate enjoyment.”
