Australian mobile users who want to benefit from the high speeds of Telstra's Next G network without being tied by contract agreements, will soon have the chance to do so. Telstra has announced that it will open its network for pre-paid customers too, so that not only the post-paid ones can access it.

The so-called Telstra Pre-Paid Wireless Broadband pack will include a 10 buck Next G SIM card and a USB modem to speedily connect you to the Web.

The pack will be available for purchase starting next week, from September 22. There will be various offerings, for prices starting at 149 Australian dollars. You'll be able to get up to 6GB of monthly data, but that only if you want to pay more than the $149 initial price.

"Pre-Paid Wireless Broadband simply plugs into your laptop giving you access to the Next G network without having to connect any cables, so you can surf the web at anytime, use it on the train and take it with you if you move outside the house. Telstra's Pre-Paid Wireless Broadband has no contracts or minimum monthly commitments. It provides the ultimate flexibility, is simple to use and can be recharged at more than 5000 locations across Australia," said Ms. Glenice Maclellan, executive director, Consumer Marketing, Telstra.

Mr. Craig Turner, executive director at Telstra Product Management, added, "Customers will connect directly to the Next G network and enjoy typical speeds of 550 kbps to1.5 Mbps, bursting up to 3 Mbps in selected areas. Because the Next G network is Australia's largest mobile network, Telstra customers can get connected in more places than on any other 3G network."

Telstra currently offers lots of mobile devices that work on its Next G network, including: HTC Touch Diamond, Nokia N95, Nokia E51, LG KF700Q, LG TU550, LG KF390, Sony Ericsson W760, Sony Ericsson K850i, Samsung U900T, Motorola V9 (RAZR2) and so on.
