Australian wireless carrier Telstra has officially confirmed plans to skip the BlackBerry 10.1 operating system upgrade for its Z10 and Q10 users and provide them directly with the BlackBerry 10.2 update.

The carrier has already received the new platform version for testing, and says that there’s no point in pushing two updates for said devices.

Instead, it will test and approve only the BlackBerry 10.2 OS version, and plans on making it available for download starting with mid-October, as CrackBerry notes.

On the wireless carrier’s website, both BlackBerry Z10 and Q10 are listed as set to receive the new firmware beginning October 14, though it remains to be seen whether that will indeed happen.

BlackBerry 10.2 was made official last week and will arrive pre-loaded right from the start on the new BlackBerry Z30 smartphones.
