Telmap Is the First to Offer Blackberry Messenger Integration

Telmap, one of the leading companies in mobile location-based services, has recently announced that its Telmap Mobile Location Companion now fully supports the popular Blackberry Messenger

According to the company, this is the first integration of Blackberry Messenger with an application that offers users real-time location within conversations and interactions in Blackberry Messenger.

BlackBerry Messenger (BBM)is an instant messaging application that is delivered with the majority of BlackBerry smartphones.

It looks like the application has an active user base of over 35 million and can be considered one of the largest mobile-centric communities in the mobile industry.

Telmap's achievement follows Research in Motion (RIM) announcement of a new platform that devs will be able to use to implement BlackBerry Messenger functionality into their apps.

Apparently, RIM introduced the platform, which is called BlackBerry Messenger Social Platform, back in September 2010.

“We view this integration as an important manifestation of our vision to provide richer, more comprehensive experience to our users when they are out and about with the mobile as their main device for connectivity. We work hard to integrate our application with various vehicles which we identify as popular and useful, like the BlackBerry Messenger, to ensure added value to users who can now add location information to their interactions with friends,” said Motti Kushnir, Telmap chief marketing officer.

With the new integration of the Blackberry Messenger into Telmap's location solution, users will now be able to send requests to their contacts to share their current location.

Whenever these are approved, they will be able to see the location on a map within the Telmap Mobile Location Companion.

Additional details about that location will also be received, along with the possibility to navigate to it, walking or driving.

Telmap announced that it would be demonstrating the new integration and capabilities at WES, which is part of the Blackberry World Conference, May 3-5, 2011 in Orlando, Florida.
