14 DAY TRIAL // The development team at Telltale Games has managed to create a niche for itself in the episodic game genre and has delivered some solid titles based on universes created by other companies, but it seems that the new intellectual property which is entirely original is the most ambitious experience that it has ever worked on.
At the moment, the studio has managed to deliver two highly-praised episodes based on Game of Thrones and is also working on more installments based on Borderlands, The Wolf Among Us, and The Walking Dead.
Kevin Bruner is the new chief executive officer of Telltale Games and he states in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz that “We've spent a lot of time experimenting over the last decade with how powerful a storytelling tool interactive can be and when we thought about building something from the ground up that gave us absolutely everything we could dream of as storytelling tools.”
The executive claims that the story, the new universe and the developers are all perfect for the new title, although he was not willing to offer any sort of details about the narrative the company plans to create.
Given that both Games of Thrones and Borderlands are still running their first seasons, no official announcement about the new title will probably be made this year.
Telltale Games is dealing with bigger franchises for its titles
Kevin Bruner also says that companies are currently coming to the studio in order to ask them to create episodic content based on their intellectual property.
The CEO says that five years ago he would have not dreamed about working with HBO, something that now seems normal.
Telltale Games is at the moment also planning to deliver a new series based on Minecraft, the indie wonder from Mojang which is now owned by Microsoft.
The formula that the studio uses for all its titles is based on player choices and a solid understanding of all the unique elements of the universes that it is working with.
It will be interesting to see how Telltale Games manages to work when it needs to create an entire world and all the characters from scratch.
