The company's games deliver great stories on non-standard gaming platforms like iOS and Android tablets

Kevin Bruner, one of the co-founders of famous adventure video game makers Telltale Games, believes that games will eventually shape the future of pop culture.

For the time being, games are not as huge as other traditional story conveying means such as films and novels, but they are getting increasingly bigger year by year, with many people starting to think that coming home to play video games instead of watching television is something normal, rather than something weird or geeky.

Bruner thinks that it's a really exciting time to be in games right now, and that the lines between media consumers and gamers are getting increasingly blurred, thanks in no small part to smartphones and tablets, devices that allow people who don't see themselves as dedicated gamers to engage with many interactive titles.

Bruner maintains that a portion of the audience will never buy dedicated gaming hardware, but the fact that games can now be accessed on devices which see everyday use means that more and more people will be drawn to the medium, mainly to experience new and exciting stories.

"I think it's going to happen really, really fast, where people just don't categorize themselves as much. They're just media consumers, whatever that means."

"Films and novels and television [aren't] going away, but all the good stuff's gonna be happening on your game console, on your tablet. That's where the awesome stuff is going to be," Bruner tells Digital Trends.

Still a long way to go

Bruner believes that games are huge right now, but all the great stories and storytellers work on a much bigger, mass market. Bruner thinks that things are going to gradually change in large part due to the increased accessibility of great stories.

He mentions that, if you take ten people at random on the street, they will most likely know of "Game of Thrones," if they have not actively engaged with it, but only one in ten will have heard of recent game releases.

That means that television, films and novels are much bigger when it comes to telling stories, and that Telltale Games' decision to move to non-gaming platforms such as Android or iOS resulted in non-gamers enjoying their content.

Telltale is currently working on Game of Thrones and Tales from the Borderlands, with two more projects in the cards, Minecraft: Story Mode, and an unknown original property.
