Telltale has revealed that it has sold one million episodic games since the company was founded in 2004. The developer is specializing in delivering series of videogames based on well-known properties, like Sam & Max, with new content arriving monthly.

At the E3 trade show, Telltale is set to announce a fresh series already in development. It will also show off the episodes from Wallace & Gromit that should move to the Xbox 360 after appearing on the PC. Plans related to the WiiWare digital distribution platform will also be unveiled.

Telltale is saying that, at the moment, more than 1 million game episodes have been sold across all the platforms and all the properties and 20 episodes were released since spring 2005 on the PC, the Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii. Apparently, Telltale is also thinking of bringing its business to other platforms, probably the PlayStation 3.

The company has quite a few agreements with other entities, related to using their properties in episodic videogames. One of the most high profile is for the television show CSI, other important ones are with Steve Purcell with Sam & Max, Jeff Smith for Bone, Aardman Animations for Wallace & Gromit.

Kevin Bruner, who is the CTO and co founder of Telltale, stated that “The episodic model has been incredibly rewarding from a development standpoint. It used to be we only made two or three games a decade. At Telltale, we release a new game every month, which fosters greater creativity with the teams, and the customers get to enjoy more content on a regular basis.”

We've played and pretty much liked Sam & Max and Homestar Runner, but the Wallace & Gromit first episodic content seemed a bit too sedate for the tone of the games released by Telltale.
