There have been some issue regarding the rapid increase of Internet users and the growing need for a stronger infrastructure and faster connections, and Tellabs seems to have taken things one step at a time, or so its recent announcement seems to suggest, more or less.

It appears that the existing infrastructure is having trouble coping with the high rate at which more devices get connected to the web, or at least issues may arise sooner or later.

In the case of mobile Internet devices, packet core networks are being pushed to their limit, since traffic is growing.

This led to the need for an easy way to enhance bandwidth and throughput, and Tellabs claims to have that solution.

What the company did was double the throughput and capacity of its Tellabs SmartCore 9100 series of mobile packet cores, at least for the upcoming IPP2 (Intelligent Packet Processor) card.

The IPP2 provides twice as much performance and will let WiMAX (ASN-GW), 3GPP (GGSN) and LTA (EPC) networks benefit from its increased capacity.

Service providers should also be in a position to deliver a higher number of Internet services and applications.

'The platform's ability to deliver content-aware, user-aware and context-aware intelligence helps optimize the network for lower cost and monetize it by creating new revenue streams,” says the press release.

"Demand for more bandwidth keeps increasing as users employ new services and applications," said Rehan Jalil, senior vice president of mobile Internet for Tellabs. "With twice the power, Tellabs high-performance advanced packet core can do much more to transform the quality of user experiences and our customers' business models."

Full information on the entire Tellabs SmartCore 9100 line can be found here. The IPP2 will only enter availability sometime in the second half of the ongoing year, though Tellabs direct sales and sales partners.
