Leading global telecommunications provider Telefonica announced recently that it had reached an agreement with Conectel-Kodiak for the deployment of “Push and Talk” solution in Latin America. According to the carrier, the new service will be rolled-out as “Movistar Movitalk,” and will be based on Kodiak Networks’ solution, coupled with Conectel experience in marketing telecoms services in the region.

According to the agreement, Telefonica is to roll-out the “Movistar Movitalk” service around the continent, offering users the possibility to enjoy instant calling. The service will be available both for individual calls, as well as for talks within predefined groups. Moreover, the service will enjoy a good coverage in the area, as it will be built upon the existing mobile networks, something that will also endure the leveraged quality of the service.

“We continue to see growth in all our businesses and believe that Movistar Movitalk will extend our leadership in the mobile market, given the growing popularity of community-oriented applications in the region. Our customers require more choices and advanced functionalities to satisfy their communications needs and this service meets these demands,” stated Luis Miguel Gilperez, Head of Mobile Business Telefonica Latin America.

According to Telefonica, the addition of Movistar Movitalk in its portfolio of services should be seen as a great option in the area, as community-oriented social networking applications have started to see great adoption here. Moreover, the launch of the service will also turn Telefonica into the largest provider of “push and talk” services on the continent.

“Kodiak is very pleased to be a technology partner with these leading companies. This immediate, wide-spread deployment demonstrates the continued success of our “push and talk” solution and differentiated service offerings,” said John Vice, President and CEO of Kodiak Networks. The new service is already available in Ecuador and Peru and will be delivered to Mexico, as well as to other countries where Telefonica offers services at the moment.
