Major carrier Telefonica has just announced that it has teamed up with Mozilla to offer customers two brand new Firefox OS-based smartphones, the ZTE Open and Alcatel One Touch Fire.

As Mozilla points out, ZTE Open is now available for purchase in Peru, the Alcatel One Touch Fire can be bought in Uruguay, whereas both smartphones have just been released in Mexico.

Telefonica launched another Firefox OS-based smartphone last week, the LG Fireweb. However, the smartphone is only available in Brazil for the moment.

Having launched the ZTE Open and Alcatel One Touch Fire, Firefox OS is now available in nine countries, though Mozilla has confirmed plans to introduce the platform in other countries soon.

The Alcatel One Touch Fire is an entry-level smartphone that sports a 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports 320 x 480 pixels resolution and 165ppi (pixel density).

Hardware-wise, the handset comes equipped with a single-core processor clocked at 1GHz, an Adreno 200 graphics processing unit, 256 MB of RAM and 512MB of ROM.

The smartphone comes packed with pre-installed apps and services, including Firefox Marketplace, Badoo, Box, Poppit, Facebook, KAYAK, SoundCloud, The Weather Channel, TimeOut, TMZ, Tuenti and Twitter.

ZTE Open is another cheap handset that sports a similar 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display with 320 x 480 pixels resolution. It packs a 1GHz single-core processor, which is complemented by an Adreno 200 GPU, 256MB of RAM and 512MB of ROM, which can be further expanded up to 32GB via microSD memory card.

The entry-level handset comes with a 3-megapixel rear-facing camera with video recording and a decent 1200 mAh Li-Ion battery that has yet to be rated by the manufacturer.

Both smartphones have been confirmed to run the latest version of Firefox OS (1.1), which includes many performance improvements, as well as new features such as MMS messaging.
