Intel's MeeGo OS for tablets, as seen at MWC 2011, is still a way off from completion, but it seems Telecom Italia has a better time of adapting it for a Internet TV device known as Cubovision.

As end users no doubt know by now, the Mobile World Congress 2011 expo in Barcelona, Spain, saw the emergence of many phones and tablets.

Basically, many companies from around the world used the event as it should have been, namely an opportunity to unleash new hardware and software.

Intel did not exactly see many products using its hardware, as the ARM platform reigned supreme this once.

Still, it did get some attention for its MeeGo OS, although it seems it will take a while for the tablet version to be properly finalized.

In fact, a tablet prototype running it (an ExoPC slate) was seen up close and ended up causing mixed impressions among attendants.

Still, it appears that the software platform can be used for other things as well, like the Cubovision, which is an Internet TV device.

Basically, it is a product built on an Intel Atom CE4100 processor and which delivers WebTV and other Internet content to TVs.

“Cubovision is the achievement of an ambitious goal: making our customers’ TV experience more involving and more personal,”said Paolo D’Andrea, Head of Telecom Italia Broadband Content.

“Through broadband connectivity our platform now offers a new way of enjoying digital content, and will soon offer access to leading Internet services via TV.”

“For a long time, Intel has worked with major industry players like Telecom Italia contributing to the development of ‘smart TV’,”added Christian Morales, Intel vice president and general manager of Intel product sales and marketing in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

“Powered by the Intel Atom processor CE4100 series, the device we are working to enable allows more viewer interaction with the small screen by seamlessly integrating Internet functionalities and content, personal information, programming from a variety of digital channels on, and a potentially infinite number of specific applications, all conveniently available from a single TV screen.”
