One of the most popular turn-by-turn navigation applications, TeleNav GPS Navigator has been updated to version 6.2 for a select numbers of Android devices. As part of the launch the developer has introduced new features and enhanced local search content.

TeleNav GPS Navigator 6.2 provides users with Multiple Route Suggestions and allows them to choose which route they prefer.

As soon as the user enters an address, three route suggestions are displayed as an overlay on a map, with route distance and estimated time arrivals.

Based on the information displayed, users can choose the route they believe is best for them.

The application also includes a new user interface for the Commute Alert feature, which is supposed to make it easier for users to set and receive automatic alerts for current traffic conditions.

Another new feature introduced with TeleNav GPS Navigator 6.2 is called Quick Search and makes finding local places of interest easier and faster.

With the new expanded Speech Recognition feature, users will only have to press a single button on the home page and speak a command.

More voice commands have been inserted in addition to those available in previous versions: “How's the weather” or “How's traffic.”

“With this release, we've made Navigator easier and faster to use, and also added new capabilities that allow the user to personalize their navigation experience,” said Sal Dhanani, co-founder and vice president of products for TeleNav.

“We're confident that when our users try this version, they'll immediately benefit from the enhancements we've made and enjoy the faster, simpler, more personalized experience,” added Dhanani.

Furthermore, TeleNav GPS Navigator 6.2 includes enhanced map performance and design, as well as overall improved application speed.

TeleNav GPS Navigator 6.2 is available as a free download on the Android Marketplace to AT&T customers using the Samsung Captivate, HTC Aria, Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 or Motorola BACKFLIP devices running Android OS version 2.1 or above. The application will show under a different name, AT&T Navigator 2.2.

The developer also mentioned the update will be available soon on additional Android devices through other wireless carriers.
