They say dogs are the proud and noble descendants of mighty wolves that roamed our planet millennia ago. Well, not to offend anybody, but Pip the pug doesn't look anything like a wolf.

A cute-looking rat, maybe. A fierce predator of the woods, not so much. In fact, rumor has it that Pip might just be the absolute smallest pug Britain has ever seen.

“She must be Britain's smallest pug - if not the smallest pug in the world,” says teeny tiny Pip's loving owner, Joanne Astley of Dudley, West Midlands.

Pip is small enough to sit in a gravy boat

Pip the pug is now about 4 months old. At this age, she should be twice as big as she is. For some reason, she is refusing to grow and so stands merely 4 inches (10 centimeters) tall.

As for her weight, her owner says that she tips the scale at about 1.2 pounds (a little over 0.5 kilograms). This makes her twice as slim as her sister, Poppy.

Being so small, Pip can go walkies carefully tucked inside Joanne Astley's purse. When hanging out at home, she doesn't have to sit on the sofa to relax. A regular gravy boat will do.

Neither Joanne Astley nor her partner has any idea why the miniature pug won't grow any bigger, DM tells us. Mind you, vets are about as clueless as they are.

Despite her odd size, Pip is perfectly healthy. She loves spending time with her family and her sister Poppy and doesn't even seem to be aware of her slightly peculiar body.

“Pip may be small, but she's got a big character,” owner Joane Astley explains.

Everybody loves and adores tiny Pip

Not at all surprisingly, Pip causes quite a sensation whenever her owner takes her to explore the neighborhood or a nearby park.

Funnily enough, 54-year-old Joane Astley says that some people mistake her for a toy and are quite taken aback when they figure out that she is a real pooch.

“People stop and stare - they can't believe she's real, they all think she's a toy,” Pip's owner says.
