Teens swimming in a river in England have stumbled upon bones belonging to a person who has been dead for the last 1,000 years.

Christian Thompson and Robbie Cribley, both 13 years old, recovered a skull and bone in the River Coln in Fairford, Gloucestershire.

The discovery was made in July and researchers have revealed that the case is not as gruesome as the boys think. They were convinced about finding the remains of someone murdered there.

Instead, they came across the bones of an African woman living centuries ago. Now the bones will probably be donated to a museum, HuffPost writes.

“Today it has been confirmed that the remains are that of a woman from Sub-Saharan Africa and are dated between 896AD and 1025AD,” a Gloucestershire police spokesperson states.
