In the United States

Don't throw your money on meaningless things, buy security for your children! Although exaggerated, this slogan could be associated with the message sent by the representatives of several high schools from US during the Computers, Freedom and Privacy conference.

The children back up the idea that they are much more informed in technology than their parents and they understand much better the security and privacy problems, without help or guidance from professors or parents.

The youngsters manifested their discontent with the schools' policy regarding the acquaintance with computer systems. A 16 year old teenager, representing Seattle Prepatory School, picked on her professors for insisting too much on less important problems, like "the ethics of computer usage ", while the important issues, like network security, are treated superficially."Even though the classes on morality and computers have a point, we think the information and advices on computer security are much more important. The children should be taught about hackers' traps, adult sites and all the other taboo subjects considered non important by our teachers ".

The children have explicitly described the way in which a teenager should be educated in the Internet era, the information they had access to either by bypassing the restrictions imposed by their parents, or just because there were no restrictions against harmful information. Regardless of the situation, the youngsters claim they learned more by themselves about security problems which they solved without any outside help.
