Tokyo’s annual Eco Products exhibition has managed to showcase an eco-friendly innovation built entirely by teenagers who have manifested their passion both for eco-friendly values and scientific technology. The result of their work is an amazing-looking solar-powered car, designed during an educational program closely supervised by Koto Ward mayor Takaaki Yamazaki,
Clean Technica informs.
The main goal was to raise the level of awareness of students regarding the most important environmental challenges while coming up with a new prototype aiming to revolutionize transportation.
All teenagers were exited to contribute to the success of “Solar Car Challenge Program,” and it seems that their young age didn't represent an obstacle. From high-school grads to pupils from elementary schools, all the participants have proved their eagerness to help build one of the most spectacular cars of the future.
The team of young manufacturers has counted on the help of residents, local businesses and universities to develop their project. All in all, it appears that they have done a good job correlating modern technology with environmental awareness.
“Building a solar car from scratch was a really good experience,” declared Kota Tsukahara, a 9th grader and one of the “experts” involved in this successful operation.
Even though most of the technological achievements are developed in scientists' laboratories, this time a team of kids was behind the new prototype that impressed the jury after ranking 10th in a solar car race organized earlier this year in Suzuka.
It seems that Tsukahara, who has monitored the energy consumption of the car every week, has great expectations for the future of this green car, since he hopes it could someday compete in the worldwide-famous World Solar Challenge in Australia.
Japan might soon find the key to a sustainable development, since it has already proven that education, correlated with an appropriate financial help and motivation can be used to boost eco-friendly projects displaying impressive results.
