The parents of a teenager from the Fox Chapel Hill Area school district believe that he has wrongly been suspended from school after bringing in a knife.
David Schaffner III accidentally took a hunting knife with him on the high-school stadium. He had been cutting branches in a wooded area behind his house and it slipped his mind to leave the knife behind.
When he realized it was on him, he turned it in to a security guard, apologizing in a note. However, a Fox Chapel principal gave him a ten-day suspension anyway.
According to Opposing Views, his parents have hired attorney Phil DiLucente to fight the school.
“It’s utterly ridiculous. I mean, what are we teaching our youth today? To not be honest, to not be open and forthcoming? We are hopeful there will be reconsideration on this particular matter and he [will] be immediately back in school,” he argues.
