A teenager from Santa Fe has been shot in his home by a man living with him and his mother.

The 14-year-old's mom allegedly took a long time calling 911, because she was browsing for “gunshot wounds” online in the meantime.

According to KHOU, the unnamed 14-year-old boy was shot at 6:27 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, but authorities weren't alerted until 2 a.m. the next day, when his condition worsened.

The boy's mother was looking up ways to treat the wound on WebMD.com during this time. The boy has survived the injury to his leg and he is currently being treated at Memorial Hermann Hospital. He was first checked out at Mainland Medical Center in Texas City.

The gunman has been identified as 24-year-old Pete Jesse Rodriguez, living at the house. It appears that he was playing a game with the teenager, and police have CCTV footage of him tracking him, getting into position and pointing the gun in his direction.

While he was just playing a game, Rodriguez shot the victim in the left thigh with a pistol. Police were called in to 10400 block of 27th Street, where they found that the teen had been shot once with a high-caliber bullet.

“I didn't hear anything, just flash and lights,” neighbor Sharlene tells reporters of the time of the shooting.

The police have filed charges against the mother, and they are also investigating the mother's actions.

Rodriguez has been arrested and detained on $151,500 (€115,300) bond. He will be facing the felony charges of injury to a child with the intention of inflicting serious bodily injury.

The mother is in hot water and could be arrested for felony injury to a child by omission, as her failure to report the incident could have cost her son his life.
