A 16-year-old boy from Japan took out his best friend for the ride of their lifetime, thanks to his father’s platinum American Express credit card. Together, they racked up a $54,000 (€42,000) bill at hostess bars in Tokyo in 2010.

The good news is that his father won’t have to cover the entire amount, a court has ruled, as the AFP reports.

The teen and his friend visited local luxury hostess bars, guzzling expensive champagne and whiskey while enjoying the company of gorgeous women.

A judge has ruled that the managers and owners of the establishments the boy visited have to shoulder some of the responsibility for what happened because he was underage at the time.

So, instead of covering the entire bill of his son, the father will only have to pay back a small fraction, of about $7,800 (€6,088). It’s still a lot of money, though.
