A teenager who wanted to be on Anderson Cooper’s show and decided taping himself while skateboarding, has suffered a serious fall and is now in a coma, it has emerged. The episode will no longer air.

X17 Online says that producers of Cooper’s show “encouraged” the teen to record all “the crazy stuff” he did because they were working on an episode on how the mind of teenagers works.

He took a camera with him when skateboarding, fell and hurt himself. He’s slipped into a coma, the same e-zine says.

Producers have released a statement to confirm reports in the blogosphere and to state that they did not ask the boy to put himself at risk for the sake of the show.

At the same time, they make it clear that the episode will no longer air.

“As part of our routine process, we ask guests for video footage and photos. We did not provide the family with a camera,” producers say.

“On the morning that they were supposed to travel to NYC, we learned that the teen had been injured. We are very concerned about him, and are thinking of him and his family at this time,” adds the same statement.

Lest anyone should point a finger at him, Cooper has also come out with a statement, in which he extends his best and heartfelt wishes to the family for the health of the boy.

“I was very saddened to hear the news of this accident, and want to express my deepest concerns for the teenager who was injured,” he says.

“I take this situation seriously, and my thoughts and prayers for his health, well-being and recovery are with him and his family,” the talk show host further says in the same statement, as per X17.

The family of the boy is yet to release a statement on the tragedy.
