Tragedy hit one family in Oakland Park this past weekend, when two siblings were left home alone and the boy – a teen – accidentally shot his younger sister.

The AP reports that the Broward Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident, which took place on Saturday evening.

According to reports, the two children were at home, unsupervised. The teen boy is 13 years old.

He is believed to have come across a handgun, with which he shot his 6-year-old sister.

She was rushed to the Broward Health Medical Center, and is now said to be in critical but stable condition.

The report doesn’t say anything about who might have been the owner of the gun or whether they had taken all necessary precautions to prevent such an incident. It mentions that police are considering the shooting to have been an accident.

For the time being, these are all the details available but we’ll keep you up to speed in due time.
