Almost 700 messages a day

Although it might sound incredible, 13-year-old Dena Christofferson recently reached this record, toped by the phone bill her father, Greg Christofferson of Cheyenne Wisconsin, received, which went up to as much as $4,756.25.

Dena's father bought cellphones for his family recently, and opted for a data plan from Verizon Wireless that excluded texting, and which proved to be a serious issue in the end, as it implied paying for all text messages that were sent or received from the mobile phones his family members had.

And it seems that Dena managed to send and receive almost 20,000 messages in a month, which translates into an impressive number of around 700 texts sent and received per day. Christofferson's reaction when hearing the amount of money he had to pay for the phone bill was to smash the handset using his hammer.

One more problem that Dena had to face was the fact that her principal called the family soon after the carrier called to discuss the phone bill, telling her parents that the teenager was getting several Fs on her report card. That resulted in Dena being grounded, while also having her mobile phone destroyed, something that should help her see her grades rise. Take a look at the video posted by CNN to learn more on this.

While this story might seem rather funny in a certain way, it points to a fact that cannot be taken lightly, namely the fact that teenagers seem to be rather fond of texting these days, something that goes hand in hand with the fact that mobile phone makers have recently unveiled a larger number of devices that make it easier to type messages. There are already a wide range of full-QWERTY handsets on the market, and more to come, while touchscreen devices that provide virtual keyboards are available as well. However, one should also make sure to choose the right plan, for the bill might get higher than expected.
