File this under “life’s not fair most of the time”: Amber Portwood, alleged man abuser and reality star, makes $280,000 a year thanks to her contract with MTV, the network that launched her “career,” it has emerged.
Amber was recently
arrested and booked for domestic abuse against her former fiancé and the father of her daughter, Gary Shirley. While in court, she was asked to state her profession and salary,
HollywoodLife informs.
Granted, she’s still a long way to go to get into the big league and play ball with the likes of Kim Kardashian, but Portwood too is very well off, especially considering that her only merit is having been discovered by MTV after becoming pregnant at 16.
“It appears Amber Portwood is taking home some pretty major bucks for her role on the MTV hit show Teen Mom – to the tune of $280,000!” HL writes.
“In allowing MTV to exploit her life and often volatile personal relationships, the young mom is making more money than most Americans – does this seem fair?” the e-zine writes.
Fair or not, this is showbiz and it seems controversy and scandal sell much better than anything. We’re talking, of course, of Portwood’s run-ins with the law for beating up Shirley in front of the camera and the abuse charges brought against her.
“The Teen Mom star was booked on two felony counts and a misdemeanor for domestic battery on Dec. 27, after being picked up by local police at her home in Anderson, Ind., and brought to the Madison County Jail,” HL writes.
“Upon being released from jail on $5,000 bond, the 20-year-old appeared before Madison County magistrate Steven Clase, using a video feed from the jail, and was ordered to reveal her salary – $280,000!” the e-zine notes.
Asked about her occupation, Portwood said she was a “television personality” and she was initially reluctant about revealing how much money she made from her career. Eventually, she had to comply with the judge’s demands, it is being said.
