Amber Portwood, star of MTV’s “Teen Mom” series, has been rushed to the hospital after ODing on pills and trying to hang herself. The 911 call was placed by on-and-off boyfriend Gary Shirley, it has emerged. Portwood, who has become quite a tabloid fixture since she first appeared on the reality series mostly because of her short-fuse temper, and tendency to lash out and physically harm Shirley, has been
suffering from depression.
Police were called to her home the other day by Shirley, who rang to say he’d received a phone call from her telling him she was about to kill herself,
Radar Online reports.
TMZ has the actual 911 call, in which
a very calm Shirley asks the officers to check in on Amber because she might do something to harm herself.
“I just spoke with my girlfriend and she had said something to me... said she’s having a hard time with her life... call the police, they can find my body in the garage,” he is heard saying on the recording of the 911 call.
“I’m calling you guys because I don’t want her to kill herself,” Shirley adds.
“Late this morning (11:34 a.m.), Anderson Police responded to a call at a residence in the 1300 block of Pleasant Meadow Drive. According to the caller, 21-year-old Amber L. Portwood was depressed and threatening to end her life,” reads the police report obtained by Radar.
“The victim, who did not appear to be injured, was transported to a local medical facility for further evaluation,” the same documents reveal.
The e-zine says that, by the time police and doctors arrived on the scene,
Portwood had already ingested some pills (presumably) and was lying face up on the couch, with a rope “loosely knitted around her neck.”
EMTs tried to get her to say what she’d taken, but she was unresponsive, going in and out of consciousness, so they sent her immediately to the hospital for a thorough checkup.
