14 DAY TRIAL // Leah Messer-Calvert, star of MTV’s hit reality series Teen Mom 2, whose story will be included in the brand new season of the show, is opening up on her little girl’s health issues, saying 4-year-old Aliannah has been diagnosed with muscular dystrophy.
Leah has hinted about the girl’s problems on social media before, but she is now speaking with InTouch for the first time since she got a diagnosis. Her heart is broken, as one might expect.
Ali’s condition is rare and incurable, and doctors have already informed Leah that she should expect things to progress negatively, to the point where her daughter will be in need of a wheelchair to move around.
“We were scared because we didn’t know what her future was going to look like, but we always pushed for answers,” Leah says.
“We never gave up, and we never will. We’ll do everything we can to make sure Ali has the life that she needs,” she says. In fact, Leah and her second husband, Jeremy, are already making plans to move to a new house that would accommodate a wheelchair.
“The disorder affects her respiratory system and progresses the older she gets. The bigger she gets and the more weight she gains, the harder it’ll be for her muscles to carry the weight,” the mother says.
Ali’s father, Leah’s first husband, who is also daddy to Aleeah, is doing his part to help after the diagnosis, with the reality star saying that they’re closer than ever, now that they’re working together to do what’s right for Ali.
Leah’s 24-year-old husband Jeremy is also very supportive and loving, even though a promo for the new season showed them in a very bitter argument. The Teen Mom says that he’s still learning the ropes of married life, which is absolutely understandable considering this is his first marriage.
Still, she insists, they love each other and are extremely happy, and the fight caught by cameras was just a one-time thing.
