A 15-year-old girl from Chula Vista, California has shown extraordinary courage by calling the police while intruders were in her family home, as she was hiding in a closet.

Doyin Oladipupo heard the alarm go off and saw men enter the residence, after they tried ringing the bell to check if anyone was home. She made sure to quietly slip into the closet and cover herself with clothes as she dialed 911.

"I took off my shoes because I didn't want them to hear me, and I grabbed [the] phone," she recalls for ABC News.

"I was so scared because I could see them. And I thought they were going to see me. They were just taking things from my mom," she adds.

As they entered the room she was in, the dispatcher could hear them talking about how they would collect her family's belongings. She understood that Oladipupo wasn't able to talk and advised her to tap her answers on the phone.

"Bring the, bring the bucket over here," one of the burglars can be heard saying in the background of the 911 tape.

"She was clearly frightened, but remarkably calm," the operator describes.

"My officers want you to know that your whole house is surrounded, you're in safe hands, but just stay where you are," she told her once police arrived at the house.

They were able to apprehend the intruders in front of the residence and recover the items stolen from the home.

When her mother returned and officers informed her of her daughter's contribution in catching the thieves, she couldn't believe her ears.

"My daughter's strong. [...] I didn't even know how strong she was, and the police told me what happened. She's got an inner strength and it showed yesterday," Adebisi Jinado notes.
