Last year, the publishers of Dynasty Warriors and Ninja Gaiden merged to form Koei Tecmo because of low sales and game delays. This move was meant to strengthen both of the companies. Unfortunately, a recent report shows that the financial 2009 wasn't as good as the publisher hoped it would be with a decrease of sales to 34.5 billion yen, that is 376.9 United States Dollars, 13.8 percent lower than the year before. As a result, profits also decreased from 2.8 billion yen, 30.6 million dollars, to 2.8 billion yen, around 28.4 million dollars.

This wasn't totally unexpected by the company. The delays of the Playstation 3 exclusives Quantum Theory, an action game, and Trinity: Souls Of Zill O'll, a role-playing game, forced Koei Tecmo to cut the profit expectations by a staggering 97 percent in February. This led to a drop in shares.

The games that sold well and kept the publisher afloat were Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 on the PS3 with 480,000 units shipped, Sengoku Musou 3 on the Nintendo Wii with 270,000 units shipped and the multi-platform Fist of the North Star Warriors with 570,000 units shipped.

This year, Koei Tecmo expects an increase in sales by 5.9 percent to 36.5 billion yen, that is 398.4 million dollars. The result of such a growth would be a rise of profits of 34.4 percent to 3.5 billion yen, somewhere around 38.2 million in US dollars.

In terms of software units shipped, the publishing outfit forecasts a boost from the 5.77 million moved last year to 6.71 million this year. Warriors: Legends of Troy and Fist of the North Star, which are due to be released this autumn for the Xbox 360 and the PS3, as well as last year's delayed titles are Koei Tecmo's hope for a better and profitable future.
