Developers might work on MMO or on a set of DLC content

The developers at Techland who have launched the surprising Dead Island zombie powered action game earlier this year have registered a trademark in the United States for a product called Dead World, which might very well be a sequel that is already being worked on.

A representative from Techland refused to comment on the trademark, which was uncovered by Siliconera, which has a long history of digging up fillings that then develop into real projects.

The Dead World name could mean that the zombie virus which caused so many problems in the tropical paradise of Dead Island now spreads around the world but it's not clear whether the developers are interested in showing the effects on just one location or whether the player will travel around to deal with the epidemic.

The World part of the title could also mean that Techland is interested in creating a MMO project, with players choosing classes and teaming up in order to deal with the zombies in various recreated real world locations.

A MMO would probably take quite a lot of time to develop which means that fans should expect to see the game launch around 2013 at the earliest.

The original Dead Island already seemed to be designed with the MMO template in mind and the game felt best when played with three other humans, mixing the abilities of the four main characters in creative ways.

Techland might also be interested in delivering smaller pieces of downloadable content that are linked to Dead Island and take the player for shorter adventures in other locations around the globe.

Techland also released Call of Juarez: The Cartel this year but that project did not perform as well as Dead Island.

At the moment the studio is known to be working on one game that should be launched during 2012 under the name of Project Haste.
