Developer Techland is working on some free modding tools for the recently released first-person zombie survival game Dying Light.

According to Techland, Dying Light and its open-world sandbox gameplay are a perfect fit for players who want to try their hand at modding, and the team is currently working on some tools that will provide would-be modders with more creative freedom.

The company is inviting everyone interested in Dying Light to join the discussion on the official game boards, in order to contribute and share mod ideas that would result in fresh and interesting content.

Techland’s previous titles, the western-flavored Call of Juarez 2 and Dead Island, another zombie apocalypse survival game, both benefited from a lot of attention from the modding community, resulting in a lot of players still enjoying new ways to play them, even after all these years.

The developer has further added that, once the modding tools are released into the wild, the company will actively support the best mods created by players.

Mods can range in scope from new weapons to use in-game to alterations of gameplay mechanics, and Dying Light fans have already flooded the forums with ideas.

Great timing

This news comes at the best time, considering the recent controversy surrounding the DMCA takedowns enforced on some innocuous game mods for Dying Light.

Last week, a patch issued by the company in order to prevent cheating in online multiplayer caused mods to malfunction, hindering mod-makers by accident.

Fortunately, the matter has been cleared, with Techland stating its support for the modding community, and publisher Warner Bros informing that it was actually a third-party vendor who had issued the copyright infringement claims.

The Entertainment Software Association, the representative of the companies that publish video games in the United States, apologized for the inconvenience created by the situation and pledged to prevent similar cases from occurring in the future.
