Microsoft has announced that it is dropping the paper version of the TechNet Magazine come December 2009. According to the Redmond company, the fact that the TechNet Magazine will no longer be available in paper form will not impact in any way the project itself. In this regard, the software giant has underlined that the magazine is simply transitioning to an exclusively web-based format. IT professionals that have gotten used to going through the pages of TechNet Magazine will be able to do so for the last time with a new issue in November 2009. The coming month Microsoft will kill the printed form.

“Although TechNet Magazine will no longer appear in print after the November 2009 issue, our mission will remain laser-focused on helping IT professionals use Microsoft technology to do their jobs better. Our hope is that you will find this new direction satisfying, and will like our coverage even better as we explore new ways to bring you the content you’ve come to rely on,” revealed a member of the TechNet Magazine team.

By becoming available exclusively via the Internet, TechNet Magazine is making a transition step that printed media in general has been flirting with. More and more examples of traditional media outlets, be them newspapers, magazines or even TV, are migrating at least part if not all of their content online. It is the natural evolution of embracing the digital age, an age where there’s very little room for paper. If anything, TechNet Magazine’s move online will represent an evolution for the project.

“As a TechNet Plus Subscriber, you have received a printed copy of TechNet Magazine and moving forward you will still have access to all of its great content, as the magazine will retain its place as a key part of the TechNet online community. Many of the features and columns you have enjoyed over the years will continue to be published online. We’ll be enriching the online magazine in many ways, including more frequent posting of articles, more videos in an enhanced video player, and more direct communication with our readers, enabling you to make comments on articles and to submit your own tips and best practices,” the TechNet Magazine team member added.
