Seventh movie will be the last in the series

2010 marks the seventh consecutive year that the terrible Jigsaw killer returns to the big screen in a “Saw” movie. Though some critics believe the series should have ended a long time ago, fans are still holding out for more – which is just perfect, since the first teaser for the seventh film, “Saw 3D,” was just premiered at Comic-Con 2010, as the video below confirms.

Aside from the sheer awesomeness of the teaser trailer (as some fans would describe it), which gets hype going without actually revealing much of the plot, there is also some sad news, USA Today reports. After a long run and many millions made in ticket sales, this will be the last movie in the “Saw” series. Perhaps understandably, the franchise will bow down in superb style, bringing all the blood, gore and, above all, ingenious torture contraptions in 3D for maximum effect.

“‘It’s time to stop,’ says Oren Koules, a producer on all the Saw movies. ‘We have told the story we wanted to tell, and this is going to be a great farewell.’ That’s probably code for ‘gruesome.’ The franchise, about a booby-trap-building psycho, became the titan of horror films with its intricate, deadly devices: a dirty needle pit; a razor box that peels skin like onions; a reverse bear trap that rips open the jaw,” USA Today writes. And that’s not all that the franchise is known for, since it also wrote a whole new page on how to build an intricate and unpredictable plot, with more twists that one could ever begin to count.

“But that’s child’s play compared with the final film, which was shot in 3-D and will feature 11 booby traps, nearly double the average for previous films. The film was re-edited and submitted six times to the Motion Picture Association of America to bring it from an NC-17 to an R rating. ‘I’m surprised we got it,’ says producer Mark Burg. ‘It’s more violent than any of them. But it’s in 3-D, it answers all the questions, it comes full circle. We have the goods on this one’,” the aforementioned publication further says.

Unfortunately, not the same can be said about the previous installment (“Saw VI”), which turned out to be the lowest performer of the entire series, making only $28 million, and being labeled a flop by critics. Even Burg admits that it did not turn out as they expected it to, but he’s positive they will more than make up for it once “Saw 3D” is out. Below is the first teaser for it – enjoy.
