The finale episode of TLC’s once very successful reality show, “Jon & Kate Plus 8,” dealing with the story of a regular married couple raising eight adorable children, aired as scheduled on Monday, November 23, 2009, and got mixed reactions in the now-estranged spouses. While Kate cried and expressed regret at the show’s conclusion, which she deemed too sudden, Jon was actually happy that he now had a place where he could run from (story via here).

Even for those viewers who do not wish to take anyone’s side in the bitter dispute that has been raging between the two for many months now, the final episode of the show clearly proved that, if anything, Kate is the more responsible parent. Either that or she really knows how to manipulate the media to her own liking. The bottom line, though, is that, while Kate got yet more points for clearly speaking her mind while also keeping a cool head, Jon only managed to sink deeper into the hole he himself dug by speaking of his “freedom.”

One thing that Kate insisted on was that the show, in her own honest opinion, ended too soon and that the entire debacle could have easily prevented if someone (namely, Jon) had shown more maturity. “This is a very bittersweet goodbye for me, because the kids are already missing it. […] I feel like it ended so suddenly, and I feel like it’s been taken from us, from me and that kids. I never had a clear picture of how it would end, but I think it’s too soon. It’s sad, it’s needless, it’s useless, it was totally avoidable… I basically could go to work and my kids could go with me, is how I saw it… Our show has provided the opportunities for us to travel and do and see, that we wouldn’t otherwise have,” Kate said.

Jon, on the other hand, expressed no regret. He said that, back at the house he once shared with Kate before they announced they were getting a divorce, things had become unbearable, so moving out was perhaps the best thing that could have happened to him. Now that he lives in another place, he can just “get out” of the house, where the kids, Kate and all his problems are, whenever he wants, Jon stressed.

“NY was a big eye opener for me. I kind of just picked a place to live and started living there. Now I know like where I hang out and stuff like that is totally different… it’s three hours from my house and where my kids are, which means it’s like work, it’s like I have work again. Although I live there, it’s not like I’m at my house and work’s at my house… I couldn’t leave. Now it’s like I have a place to go. When I get sick of the city and all the press and the media… I go back to my country place and I’m chill. So it’s like I got the best of both worlds right now,” Jon said.
