A listed provider of remote control and online presentation software, TeamViewer introduces today TeamViewer Host for Mac. Using it, IT administrators can access a Mac from any Mac, Linux, Windows, iPhone, iPad or Android device, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the company said.

Free for private use, with all its premium capabilities enabled, TeamViewer Host for Mac is touted as the perfect solution for accessing files or troubleshooting unattended computers or servers.

According to Holger Felgner, general manager of TeamViewer, one popular use of TeamViewer Host for Mac will be accessing your home computer when on vacation, indicating that it doesn’t target technicians per se.

“With TeamViewer Host for Mac, users have the freedom to control their Mac remotely whether on vacation, at work, or simply on the go,” said Felgner.

“Professionals can access their Mac computers to retrieve files while working in a home office or any other remote location,” he added.

Setup is easy and the software runs in the background, the company says. Users can hook up to a remote system in seconds by entering the ID number and password of the unattended computer.

One of the key features is the ability to remotely reboot a computer, “which is important when installing or updating software,” TeamViewer notes. It also allows admins to switch users during a session, without interruption.

As part of the new TeamViewer 6 offering, TeamViewer Host for Mac works with Mac OS X 10.4 and newer versions of Apple’s desktop OS.

The Pro version of the app is sold with a license for an unlimited number of Host installations, according to the developers.

Last, but not least, the company stresses that, just like other TeamViewer software offerings, Host for Mac boasts the highest possible security standards, including AES 256 bit encoding.
