Anonymous and Team Poison united under the name p0isAnon and declared war on the financial institutions they claim are interfering too much in the Occupy protests. Robin Hood is the name of the new operation, in which they plan on taking credit cards and donating them to the “99 percent” and charities worldwide.

“In regards to the recent demonstrations and protests across the globe, we are going to turn the tables on the banks. Operation Robin Hood is going to return the money to those who have been cheated by our system and most importantly to those hurt by our banks,” reads a video statement.

The newly formed alliance claims they already started the mission, the first victims being Chase, Bank of America and Citibank.

“We have donated thousands to many protests around the world. We have donated thousands to the homeless and other charities. Our government has fallen short in many ways.”

Besides the open declaration of war against banks, Operation Robin Hood is another opportunity for the hacktivists to urge people to move their money into “secure credit unions.”

Just like the legendary hero, they claim this operation will make the “villains” pay for every injustice they committed when they turned down people or left them homeless.

“We are not afraid of the Police, Secret Service, or the FBI. We are going to show you banks are not safe and take our money back. We are going to hit the true evil while not harming theirs customers and helping others,” p0isAnon claims.

In the past period, Anonymous and their supporting groups have been more about words than about deeds. I wonder if this is a result of the fact that organizations that consider themselves targets do a better job in securing their assets.

A good example is the operation that targeted Fox News. When the big day came, Anonymous didn’t manage to breach their systems, finding that all the ports and all the means of attack were closed and secured.

This worries me because our global banking system, including Bank of America in the U.S., is none too stable at the moment. Digital infrastructure, like Hurricane Electric, ACH (clearinghouse for payments) is essential. Unless this is a very targeted effort described above, it could inadvertently rupture an already brittle network of inter-dependencies.

Credit unions and member-owned financial institutions are excellent. I have used them whenever possible, encourage others to do so whenever possible. However, for them to function, they require many of the same network linkages and transfers as large banks. Some of these large banks don't just serve as profit-generating entities, in the sense that they do provide gateways and bandwidth for global transfer of funds for the public. Or facilitate such. So that's why I feel fear.

Banks are too powerful; it'll take a lot more than a few stolen credit cards to make any actual change...our financial institution is all kinds of broken...wall street is little more than over-glorified gambling that only ever yields real returns to the rich, the banks are far too powerful, and laws are written by lobbies.

Against that, even a small group of people committing all sorts of federal crimes can't really affect a broad change or have a real impact...sadly...actual change requires new laws because every penny anon manages to steal is made up, a hundred times over, in bank's profits; it won't even cause them to blink, and they can sit back and demand that the FBI helps them...

It really is sad how our laws now protect people much, much more if they happen to have money.
