Current generation can support a number of new experiences

Many rumors have been recently talking about the possibility of new gaming platforms being announced by Sony and Microsoft but yet another important developer says that at the moment there's no need for more powerful gaming hardware.

Yosuke Hayashi, who is the leader of the Team Ninja studio, told IndustryGamers that, “I think the only way to still see some potential come out of current-gen consoles is improvement in graphics. This will really depend on the skill of CG designers, but any further dramatic evolution in current consoles that could be plainly understood by the general gamer would be fairly difficult to achieve.”

He added, “I don’t think there is a great need anytime soon for the next generation of consoles to advance the industry. I say this because I believe that gamers thirst for great content, which doesn’t necessarily rely on new console hardware as there are other options to produce a good console game experience. A good and captivating game is just that.”

Hayashi says that performance is not a problem on the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 and that he can see himself using the current generation for the near future, as long as developers deliver good games for them.

At the moment Team Ninja is working, rather appropriately, on Ninja Gaiden 3, which will be launched on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3, aiming to deliver a game which remakes some of the core mechanics of the series in order to make it palatable to a wider audience.

A version of the game is also planned for the new Wii U from Nintendo, which might arrive during the summer of 2012.

Analysts are expecting to see hardware announcements from Sony and Microsoft during the 2012 edition of the popular E3 video game industry event.
