Prior to this year's end, consumers will see a new USB flash drive released by Taiwanese company Team Group, a 128GB-capable stick measuring a mere 70 x 28.9 x 12.3, unlike its siblings, which are capable of 16, 32 and 64GB. The flash drive will weigh 48 grams, will have a metallic color and a chessboard-like pattern imprinted into its enclosure. The product will supposedly support Windows ReadyBoost technology.

As more detailed specification, the upcoming X901 product will be compatible with USB 2.0 and operate on a DC of 5V. Read and write speeds are not breakthrough-level, considering that the drive is not built for USB 3.0. As such, the read speed will hover between 30MB/s and 34MB/s. Write speeds, on the other hand, will have a lower limit of 25MB/s and the upper speed limit will border on 31MB/s.

The flash drive is built using a sliding mechanism and has a built-in four-channel design. The product is also shock resistant and silent. The sandblasted chessboard-like surface gives the X901 an aesthetically pleasing aspect and its large capacity makes it ideal for storage of any type of files, whether they are audio tracks, videos, photos or documents. The drives promise to successfully store data and keep it intact for over ten years. This is quite reasonable considering that most end-users don't let such a long time pass before losing their flash drives or simply buying new ones.

As far as compatibility goes, the drives will work on Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. They are also compatible with Mac OS 10.4 or later and even Linux Kernel 2.4 or later.

Although pricing details have not been revealed yet, the products are said to come with a lifetime warranty. Complete information on the X901 flash drives may be found on Team Group's website.
