Solid state drives may not be as mature as hard disks but they are progressing quite rapidly and controller technologies, along with overall performance and maintenance features, are advancing at a rapid pace. Eager to more aggressively compete on this market, Team Group has come out and revealed its latest series of SSD units. Known as the Xtreem-S1, the flash-based storage devices employ the controller technology developed by SandForce and aim to be the successors to the Xtreem-G1 series.

Based on multi-level cell (MLC) NAND Flash memory chips, the devices are lightweight, efficient and totally silent storage units with enhanced read and write speed, as well as a high reliability. They have read speeds of 270MB/s and can write data at as high a speed as 260MB/s. This performance is actually ten times faster than what ordinary IDE drives can attain and, according to the developer, twice as fast as ordinary solid state drives. The Xtreem-SI devices also support SMART and come with AES 128-bit encryption specifications, for real-time SSD heath diagnostics and data protection.

“Fast, stable and lightweight, the solid state disk (SSD) has successfully replaced conventional mechanical hard drives to become the product with the most potential in 2010. After the great market success of the Xtreem-G1 SSD last year, Team Group Inc. has launched technological cooperation with the US-based SSD pioneer Sandforce to introduce the faster and more reliable Xtreem-S1 SSD tailored for power users,” the press release states.

In order to ensure the long lifespan of its drives, as well as to preserve performance over time, Team group made its new products completely compatible with the Microsoft Windows 7 OS and its TRIM command. The drives are aimed at power users, come in capacities of 60GB, 120GB and 250GB, have a MTBF of 1 million hours and, like most hardware recently released, will be showcased at CeBIT 2010.
