Along with a USB 2.0 version

With the USB 3.0 interface seeing an increasingly widespread adoption, even despite the small number of motherboards with such a capability built-in, storage-solution developers are naturally making products compatible with the new standard. Now that CeBIT is approaching, Taiwanese company Team Group is more than ready to bring such a product to the market, namely the TP1022 external hard disk drive. This unit will be demonstrated along with the USB 2.0 HDD known as the TP1021.

Set to bear the name of Pocketbook BS, the TP1022 uses the 2.5-inch form factor, measures 133.3 by 80 by 19.2 mm and weighs 250 grams. This drive is enclosed in an aluminum casing, with anode sandblasted surface treatment that is fingerprint and dirt proof.

As for the actual performance capabilities, the drive leverages the high-speed data-transfer capabilities of the USB 3.0 interface, through whose bandwidth of 4.8Gbps (5Gbps) the external hard drive will be capable of copying data up to ten times faster than via USB 2.0. As an added feature aimed at increasing its appeal, this product will come in multiple color options, including silver, golden and coffee.

As already mentioned, in addition to this USB 3.0 model, Team Group will also be showcasing a USB 2.0 external hard drive. While not as fast, this device is designed with portability in mind. As such, it measures 126 x 80 x 12 mm, weighs 172 grams and is 15% thinner than other existing mobile hard disks. This HDD will be widely known as the Pocketbook TL, and will also boast a carrying pouch.

Set to be officially released next week, both the USB 2.0 and 3.0 devices will come with multiple storage capacities, namely of 250GB, 320GB, 500GB and even 640GB. They will be demonstrated, as already implied, during CeBIT 2010 and, when they start selling, will be accompanied by a leather carrying pouch and a two-year warranty.
