In an effort to streamline the process and tasks associated with either the conversion to or the integration of Team Foundation Server (TFS), Microsoft unveiled a
new online destination on its portal for developers. With the Team Foundation Server Migration and Integration Solutions, the Redmond company is essentially offering a collection of resources designed to bridge version control systems and work item tracking systems and TFS. The end purpose as far as Microsoft is concerned is to automate the data migration process.
“We launched a new page on MSDN that will serve as the central hub for all things related to conversion to and integration with TFS. This new Migration and Integration Solutions page consolidates all of the offerings in this space, including the tools provided by Microsoft, tools developed by partners and the community, and partners offering services in this area. We have also included some community related content to the page, linking to the blogs of people on the migration team, and have included a space to link to related projects on CodePlex,” revealed
Matt Mitrik, program manager, TFS, Version Control, Migration.
Examples of tools highlighted on the page include Team Foundation Server Migration Tool for Rational ClearCase; TFS Quality Center Connector and VSS Converter Tool Walkthrough. Microsoft is also recommending solutions put together by partners, such as Subversion (SVN) to Team Foundation Server Migration Tool from Timely Development, but also CVS to TFS Converter, TFS Bug Item Synchronizer for Quality Center (QC), TFS Migration Tool for Subversion, StarTeam to TFS Converter, Subversion to TFS Converter. All are featured on the Team Foundation Server Migration and Integration Solutions and ready for use.
“We’re currently in development of multiple efforts in this space, so we plan to have more updates on this page soon. Overall, our goal is for this site to serve as the one-stop-shop for converters and integration tools, and we hope to include links to all of the offerings built by partners and the community. If you know of a tool that isn’t listed here, please let me know and I’ll work to get it included on the site,” Mitrik added.
