Valve has made a few announcements concerning its massively popular Team Fortress 2 online shooter, confirming that players will finally receive the last animated short film in the game’s “Meet the Team” series, while a mysterious project and lots of other things are currently in development.

Team Fortress 2 was released quite some time ago and, thanks to constant free updates released by Valve, not to mention the hugely popular hat mechanic that got lots of players addicted to the virtual items, it has remained very successful up until now.

In order to let people know about its 2012 plans with TF2, Valve has posted a special message on the game’s blog, confirming quite a few things.

The first and most important thing, at least for some players, is that they’ll finally get to see the “Meet the Pyro” short film, which introduces, as you can figure out from its name, the Pyro character.

Up until now, Valve amazed TF2 fans with the impressive animated videos that focused on each of the classes in the game, so you know that this last one is going to complete the series in a big way.

The hilarious announcement posted by the company says that there will be plenty of blood and fire in the new short film, but also a lot of action, as the Hollywood film Academy will have to “melt down Fort Knox to make all the Oscars we’re going to win,” according to Valve.

The company also confirmed that a secret project will be unveiled this year, although no other details can be shared at this time. Valve mentions that it isn’t a hat or a map, so perhaps we might see a new game mode or something even more impressive.

Team Fortress 2 players have forwarded around 4,000 items to the Steam Workshop up until now and Valve has promised that it will analyze all of them and continue to release them to the general public throughout 2012.

Last but not least, the company is also teasing a major change to the second annual edition of its Saxxy Awards, where TF2 short movies made by players are awarded with virtual and real life prizes.

Even if not a lot of actual details were revealed by Valve, it seems that Team Fortress 2 gamers will have plenty of reasons to keep on playing the online game throughout 2012.
