Security firm Team Cymru has published another episode of the series in which they detail the most prevalent threats that plague cyber space. In the latest video, they focus on the distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) attacks recorded worldwide in September and the malicious activities seen in Africa.

The experts revealed that, in September, computer systems from Russian were the most common targets of DDOS attacks (around 30% of all attacks), followed by the United States (22%), Ukraine (8%), China, Germany, the Netherlands, and South Korea.

As far as Africa is concerned, the researchers have found that spam and malware are becoming a serious issue on the old continent. However, the “most disturbing finding” is named the presence of HTTP and peer-to-peer-based botnets.

For instance, on September 20, 2012, around 30% of the malicious activity recorded in Africa was botnet-related.
