Melissa Cairns of Akron, Ohio, has been placed on leave and might face termination over a picture she posted on Facebook.

The photo was of her students with their mouths duct-taped. According to News Channel 5, it all started out as a joke and she posted the pic because she found it funny.

“Finally found a way to get them to be quiet,” she wrote in the caption.

She explained that the duct tape was pulled out to fix a binder, but a female student cut out a strip of it and put it over her mouth instead. The rest of the students followed her example, and the teacher snapped a shot of them.

Cairns works at the Buchtel Community Learning Center, where she teaches seventh and eighth grade math.

“Do I feel that this one, stupid mistake should cost me the last 10 years of all the good I’ve done? Absolutely not,” she says in the interview posted above.
