A couple of days ago, word got out that Taylor Swift’s new album, “Speak Now,” included a song written for John Mayer, who had broken her heart. “Dear John” is out now and it’s the most intense track Swift ever recorded.

Swift and Mayer collaborated for “Half of My Heart,” a gorgeous love ballad on his latest album. Also then, they reportedly became romantically involved.

As far as tabloids know, their romance was brief but it did leave Swift with a broken heart – and, since she’s settling scores on her latest album, she’s also speaking out on the John Mayer affair.

Of course, she doesn’t name any names but it’s not hard to imagine who she’s talking about, especially for someone who does keep track of celebrity gossip and news.

As Star Tribune writes in a review of her album, not only is “Speak Now” her most personal and revealing material to date, but it also contains the most intense and scorching track of her career in “Dear John.”

“Dear John/ I see it all now that you’re gone/ Don’t you think I was too young/ To be messed with/ The girl in the dress/ Cried the whole way home/ I should’ve known,” Taylor croons.

As she sings her little heart out, you can almost hear the tears chocking her. There’s real pain in the lyrics and the song, but also a sense of truth finally being spoken, so it’s no wonder she ends it with “You should’ve known.”

“It was wrong/ Don’t you think nineteen’s too young/ To be played/ By your dark, twisted games/ When I loved you so,” Taylor sings.

“Of course, this being the coy, evasive Swift, the name John Mayer is never uttered on this song. (She has performed with him and tabloids reported that she was involved with him earlier this year.),” Star Tribune writes.

“‘Dear John’ is by far the most scorching track on ‘Speak Now,’ which comes out on Monday, though plenty of the rest of the album stings. It’s the most savage of her career, and also the most musically diverse. And it’s excellent, too, possibly her best,” the same review says.

In a recent interview, Taylor said the song was like that explanatory e-mail or phone call people make to a loved one after the romance died out. The only difference is she likes to put those feelings on song and go public with them.

Below is Taylor Swift’s brand new song off the “Speak Now” album, “Dear John.” Enjoy.
